Nightfall at Chambre 208 – Luxury as camouflage

There is something dangerous about a woman who knows she has all night. In a world of dimly lit corridors, velvet shadows and anonymous hotel rooms, Nadine Mirada becomes the woman you notice only a second too late. Photographed by star photographer Stefan Kokovic, this cinematic story slips between glamour and danger, drawing heavily from the unapologetic sensuality of the 1990s – the era of smoky hotel bars, supermodel attitude, grainy film and music videos that felt more like miniature films than entertainment.

She has all night

A woman checks into a luxurious hotel late at night. She arrives alone and appears completely at ease. Yet she has a purpose; one she has no intention of revealing.

“I imagined a woman who checks into a beautiful hotel late at night with a purpose that no one else knows,” Nadine Mirada says. “She is elegant and sensual, but there is something dangerous about her because she is completely in control.” One can almost hear Madonna’s Justify My Love playing somewhere behind the walls.

Nadine Mirada and Stefan Kokovic imagined the character as a seductive assassin, although not in the traditional sense. She carries no visible weapon. She does not need one.

“She is the weapon.”

Perhaps someone is following her. Perhaps she is watching someone else. We never learn whether the danger lies beyond her door – or has just stepped inside.

Luxury becomes camouflage

Stefan Kokovic photographs Nadine Mirada as both protagonist and enigma. In black and white, the distractions of modern life fall away, leaving only texture, architecture and atmosphere.

The hotel becomes more than a setting. Its corridors turn into passageways. Closed doors suggest possibilities. Every empty room feels as though someone has just left, or is about to arrive.

Nadine Mirada lounges, waits, walks and watches. There is an almost hypnotic stillness to her movements, yet each image carries the expectation that something is about to happen.

“For Chambre 208, there was always a secret,” she explains. “Even when I was simply sitting or walking through a corridor, I imagined that my character knew something that nobody else knew.”

That private knowledge changes everything: her gaze, her posture and even the rhythm of her breathing. The resulting photographs seem to have been taken from a film whose beginning and ending remain deliberately hidden.

“For me, a powerful fashion photograph should make you curious about what happened outside the frame,” she says.

Here, seduction becomes strategy. Luxury becomes camouflage. And the night belongs entirely to her.

An imaginary accomplice

In one of the story’s most striking images, Nadine Mirada sits at a formally dressed table opposite an imposing dog. The animal appears watchful and disciplined – the perfect companion for a woman traveling with secrets.

“Apparently, even I need a bodyguard sometimes,” Nadine Mirada jokes.

The dog was created in post-production, leaving her to interact with a presence that existed only in the team’s imagination. Yet the chemistry feels real.

The unexpected companion adds another layer to the mystery. Is it protecting her, watching her or waiting for her command? Like everything else in Chambre 208, the answer remains outside the frame.

For Nadine Mirada, working with an imaginary presence was another form of transformation. The scene required no dialogue and no conventional action. Its tension came from suggestion: a glance across the table, a controlled pose and the unspoken understanding between a woman and her silent accomplice.

The image captures the spirit of the entire story. Nothing is explained completely, yet everything feels intentional.

Becoming a GUESS woman

Nadine Mirada has been a worldwide GUESS face since 2018. She remembers her first campaign as the moment when something she had imagined for years suddenly became real.

“GUESS has such an iconic visual language and an incredible history of women who defined different eras of fashion,” she says. “Suddenly seeing myself within that universe was surreal.”

The campaign became a major turning point in her career. International recognition followed, but its deeper impact was personal. It changed the way she understood her place within fashion.

A global campaign may project effortlessness, yet Nadine Mirada is candid about the years behind every successful image. The audience sees only a fraction of a second. It does not see the castings, travel, rejection, pressure or the long process of learning how one’s face and body respond to movement and light.

“Confidence is something I built,” she says.

Technique can be studied: posture, expression, movement and collaboration with a creative team. But Nadine Mirada believes the purpose is not to manufacture confidence. It is to develop enough knowledge and experience to trust oneself.

What she is building next

Nadine Mirada is now preparing to pass that knowledge on through Glam Era, her own modeling school.

The project will teach more than how to pose or perform before a camera. She wants young models to understand presence, professionalism and individuality– qualities developed through years of working internationally.

Away from fashion shoots, Nadine Mirada describes herself as curious and entrepreneurial. She thinks about what comes next, what she can build and how her experience might become meaningful beyond her own photographs.

“People sometimes imagine that because my photographs can be very glamorous, sensual and controlled, I must live permanently inside that world,” she says. “I don’t.”

She enjoys the transformation that fashion makes possible. For several hours, she can become the mysterious woman in Chambre 208: waiting behind a closed door, moving silently through a corridor or meeting an unknown figure after midnight.

But the performance ends when the lights go off. The fictional character remains inside the hotel, while Nadine Mirada returns to the projects, plans and ordinary life waiting beyond the frame.

Another landscape – another character

Vietnam fascinates Nadine Mirada for its meeting of tradition and dynamic contemporary culture. Although she has never visited the country, her connection with Vietnam has developed over several years through her fashion editorials for Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam. Chambre 208 marks the latest chapter in that ongoing collaboration.

She hopes the next one will bring her here; not only to discover the country’s food, scenery and culture, but perhaps to create a fashion story on location.

“I think the contrast between my European background and Vietnam’s visual world could produce something extraordinary,” she says.

It would offer a different setting, but one well suited to a model drawn to transformation and contrast. The shadowy hotel of Chambre 208 could give way to another landscape and another character.

For now, however, the door remains closed. Somewhere beyond it, Nadine Mirada’s mysterious guest is still waiting. Perhaps her target is already inside. Perhaps the real mission was never what we imagined.

Either way, she has all night.
